Joseph E. Lewis, 75, of Marengo, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital in Belvidere. Mr. Lewis was a retired carpenter. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy. He was a past commander of the Marengo American Legion Post 192 and the McHenry County American Legion Council. He had been involved with the Boy Scouts on local and regional levels. He was also a past master of the Marengo Masonic Lodge and a past member of the Tebala Shrine Temple in Rockford. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three sons, Joseph, Robert and Thomas; five daughters, Constance Boxlietner, Frances Wilson, Carol Johnson, Jill Rucker and Diane Oranger; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Marengo-Union Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. funeral service in the Marengo United Methodist Church, 119 E. Washington St.
