Raymond M. O’Connor, 71, who had appeared as an extra in numerous movies filmed in the Chicago area, died Friday in Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Raised on the South Side, Mr. O’Connor had lived in Downers Grove for more than 25 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and worked for several advertising agencies before joining the ad staff of the Sears catalog. After his retirement in 1988, he indulged a lifelong interest in acting by registering with several casting agencies and working regularly as a movie extra. Among the films he was in were “Home Alone,” “Only the Lonely” and “Prelude to a Kiss.” “He’d really enjoy it,” said his wife, Mary Jane. In addition to his wife, Mr. O’Connor is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Mazurowski and Peggy Link; three sons, Michael, Tim and Patrick; and 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St., Downers Grove. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie Avenue and Main Street, Downers Grove.
