In an effort to streamline government, the Streamwood Village Board has consolidated two of its commissions into the new Community and Environmental Awareness Commission.

As an advisory and recommending board, the new commission replaces the Community Awareness Commission and the Environmental Control Commission.

The Community Awareness and Environmental Control Commissions both “related to public awareness of the needs of the community and public safety,” said Gary O’Rourke, acting village manager.

“As both commissions served similar functions and struggled forward, we recommended putting both commissions together,” O’Rourke said. “Both commissions agreed this would allow them to benefit the community in a positive way.”

The new seven-person commission will include five former members of the awareness commission and two from the environmental control group.

The new commission’s goals include promoting public safety; increasing awareness of community resources; educating the community on environmental issues; promoting attractive homes, businesses and open spaces; and improving the quality of life for residents.

The Village Board last week also issued an alert to residents that Ameritech New Media, Ameritech Corp.’s cable subsidiary, will begin the 42-month construction of its system immediately.

Residents with sprinkler systems, invisible fence lines or other potential hazards that could interfere with the installation of cable TV lines are urged to call the cable company at 800-848-CAST.
