An Ohio developer, the Richard E. Jacobs Group Inc., has withdrawn a proposal to build a hotel and restaurant complex on 12 acres in the 5400 block of Old Orchard Road, Skokie officials said Monday.

The developer could not be reached for comment.

The proposal, which included plans for a five-story Courtyard by Marriott, a two-building Residence Inn and 10,000 square feet of restaurant space, had been recommended for approval by the Skokie Plan Commission on July 3 but had not yet been sent to the Village Board of Trustees for a vote.

The hotel would have been built on land owned by a cement company just west of the Edens Expressway in an area of Skokie with few houses, but the property is near a residential area in Glenview.

The proposal attracted the ire of Glenview neighbors who said it would disrupt their quiet neighborhood. They had complained the hotel property was too close to homes and that it would bring traffic, noise and lights to their community.

Meanwhile, the Skokie Plan Commission is expected to hear another hotel proposal in coming weeks for a nearby parcel, an eight-story Hampton Inn and Suites and an extended-stay Homestead Inn.
