Finally, it’s you versus Greg Maddux. If only it were to be televised instead of on CLTV–Crummy Little Tribune Venture.

ARTIFACTS AND FIGURES

A new display featuring the Bulls’ six championship trophies was unveiled Monday at the Field Museum.

Now there’s a fine message for you people thinking about re-upping for a luxury suite:

Putting the symbols of the Bulls’ greatness in a place where you usually find things that are extinct–and doing it the same week that Bulls management is trying to run Michael Jordan out of basketball by naming Phil Jackson’s replacement.

INSIDE STUFF

The Dallas Cowboys, who were staggered by a season-ending knee injury to linebacker/defensive end Broderick Thomas last weekend, are looking to sign a veteran pass-rusher as a stopgap–and get a load of whom they’re considering:

Alonzo Spellman. No lie.

Jerry Jones’ son recently talked with Bears coach Dave Wannstedt about Spellman and whatever planet he’s on after the barricade episode, the psychiatric ward episode, the divorce, eviction and who knows what else. And Dallas has reviewed 1997 tapes of the former first-round pick, not that it took very long, what with two sacks in seven games.

So there you go. Perhaps some revenge for those of you who hate the Cowboys for giving Michael McCaskey permission to talk to Wannstedt.

TESTING, TESTING

Chinese sports authorities have banned two athletes from competition for two years and their coaches for one year for doping, according to a published report.

China will replace them with athletes and coaches who are smart enough not to get caught.

JOINT DECISION

Englishman Paul Hunter was fined more than $7,500 for failing a drug test. Cannabis in his system. Hunter plays snooker.

So even billiards players get tested for marijuana, but NBA players refuse, and that’s one of the sticking points in the lockout.

Lack of self-respect in the corner pocket.

GETTING DUNKED

Officials at USA Basketball are considering a push to exclude NBA players from the Olympic Games.

Sort of the way management is trying to exclude NBA players from Bulls games.
