Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We know they look cool once you get them on, but how the heck do you get those trendy accordion headbands in your hair without feeling like a victim out of “Jaws”? We picked up some ‘bands at Claire’s and asked Cintia Garcia, a stylist at Chicago’s Spa di la Fronja, to show us how.

Here’s a heads-up:

The key is to bend over, then put the ‘band in while your head and hair are dangling upside down. Trying to put a ‘band in with your head upright will get the teeth tangled in your hair and create a megamess. Once your head is flipped upside down:

ONE Separate the ‘band, center it along the top of your forehead and pull it around the crown of your head. Then fasten it at the bottom.

TWO With a flip of the head, stand up and push the headband back to the desired position. You’re set!

This look works for almost any type of hair and most lengths, although stylist Cintia recommends the headbands for hair that’s chin-length or longer. (They’re a huge help if you’re trying to grow out your bangs.) And for the more daring, try adding hair mascara highlights or teasing the hair behind the headband for a retro look.
