Scott Lassar, the interim U.S. attorney in Chicago since last August, was nominated by President Clinton Monday to serve in the key law-enforcement post full time.
U.S. Senators Carol Moseley-Braun and Richard Durbin, both Illinois Democrats, recommended last December that Lassar be appointed the chief federal prosecutor here.
But the nomination was blocked for months as a result of a political squabble between the senators and Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas).
The Senate still needs to confirm Lassar, 48, who served four years as first assistant under U.S. Atty. Jim Burns.
Lassar is currently helping prosecute the price-fixing trial of top executives of Archer Daniels Midland Co.
