I agree with William Recktenwald (Metro, May 29) about the need for more life preservers along the river. But I also think that there should be more ladders from the water onto the shore.
If one looks closely below the bridges, there are vestiges of an old ladder system with four ladders under each bridge. These should be replaced and other ladders added to places where people may fall in.
