Florida Marlins pitcher Livan Hernandez decided that one day of court testimony about his personal life was enough, and he dropped objections to a restraining order sought by his former girlfriend.

Hernandez, 23, must have no contact with Alina Elgarresta for at least a year. Hernandez initially contested the order, then changed his mind after testimony Monday in Miami-Dade Circuit Court by Elgarresta, who said the pitcher physically abused her.

Soccer: Three more members of the Fire were named as reserves for Major League Soccer’s All-Star Game Aug. 2 in Orlando. Goalkeeper Zach Thornton and midfielder Chris Armas were named to the U.S. team while defender Lubos Kubik was named to the World team. Goalkeeper Jorge Campos and midfielder Peter Nowak will start for the World team, voted on by fans. Head coach Bob Bradley will be an assistant for the World team.

Tennis: Temperatures over 100 degrees didn’t slow Boris Becker as he beat Italy’s Andrea Gaudenzi 6-1, 7-5 in the first round of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany.

Pro basketball: Commissioner David Stern and players’ union director Billy Hunter met Tuesday and agreed to resume collective bargaining. Negotiations have been stalled since June 22.

Hockey: Harry Ornest, former owner of the St. Louis Blues and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, died in Los Angeles after a brief illness. He was 75.
