Suzanne G. Hlotke’s article “Old Unfaithful” (Tempo DuPage, July 12) was written with sensitivity about issues related to infidelity. Her treatment of the subject raised needed awareness of the myriad struggles women face in the aftermath of marital betrayal.
Although Ms. Hlotke’s article was devoted to women’s healing, readers should know that infidelity’s anguish extends to men as well. Increasingly infidelity support groups for men are forming to help them work through their pain toward recovery. The fact is, infidelity hurts, and it hurts regardless of gender.
As a professional counselor and facilitator, I find that men and women recovering from infidelity think and feel very much alike. They go through predictable recovery stages and share a common need for support and marital counseling if they wish to rebuild the relationship. The ideal infidelity support group is one that is open to anyone hurting from the pain of betrayal.
