Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I was pleasantly surprised to see your recent article on the new popularity of the accordion (“Accordions are becoming cool instruments, and not just for polkas anymore,” Metro, July 16). I began playing the accordion when I was barely old enough to get my arms around the instrument. When I entered politics, I played at my first “polka” fundraiser while everyone sang and danced. It wasn’t a conventional fundraiser, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and you can imagine the surprise on some people’s faces!

I am proud to see our young people taking a new interest in the accordion. I still “squeeze” time in for playing, and I always enjoy the reaction of the infectious delight it brings to those who are listening.
