Willis W. Helfrich, 92, an attorney for the Chicago Transit Authority for 30 years, died Sunday at The Holmstad in Batavia. Mr. Helfrich was a former secretary to the board of the CTA, said his daughter, Susan Ferrell. He spent his entire legal career at the board, from his graduation from law school in 1941 until his retirement in 1971, she said. For 20 years, Mr. Helfrich served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scout troop at North Park Covenant Church in Chicago. “A lot of those boys that are now in their 50s still keep in touch with him–he used to take them to camp in the summer and the Lincoln Trail to hike every spring,” his daughter said. Other survivors include his wife of 58 years, Laura; another daughter, Mary; a son, Carl; a brother, Charles; and three grandchildren. Services are pending.
