The Lemont Plan Commission has completed an overhaul of the zoning code and is sending it to the Village Board for review.

Scott Buening, the village’s community development director, said the zoning code was last updated in 1980.

He said the proposed changes reflect the village’s growth and changes in patterns of development. For instance, the proposed ordinance has a new zoning category, office/research.

Other proposed changes that would directly affect residents include restrictions against parking commercial vehicles in residential driveways and regulations on occupations that can be practiced out of homes.

Buening said the revamped ordinance will be reviewed first by Village Board members meeting as a Committee of the Whole.
