Judy Peres’ story “Giving birth to controversy” (News, July 21) provided an accurate description of the legal and ethical questions raised by the use of assisted reproduction techniques.

Indeed, hopeful infertility patients can get lost in the labyrinth of advanced technology, vague medical terminology, ethical dilemmas and scarce regulations. Their voice too often is drowned out by the cacophony of special interests in the high-stakes world of infertility treatment.

There is, however, an organization that makes its mission to be the voice of the infertile consumer. RESOLVE of Illinois Inc. is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that provides advocacy, support and education for people experiencing infertility. Services such as free educational programs, in-depth classes, newsletter articles and professionally led support groups provide patients with unbiased, consumer-focused guidance and support.

RESOLVE of Illinois helps infertile people acquire the tools they need to negotiate the difficult maze of assisted reproduction treatment. Volunteers are available to answer questions at telephone 800-395-5522.
