Since when did the sound men take over. Try hearing the complete dialogue on many of the dramas on TV. Two people walking down a street–their conversations (important to the story) are drowned out by car horns and traffic noise. Two people in any room talking about some point you want to get clear, becoming background voices as the music gets turned up.
A VCR is needed to play scenes like this back because we keep commenting, “what did they say?”
