A woman noted recently that the color lavender is suddenly appearing in clothing stores. And soon you’ll be seeing the blues. Why? The answer is neither black nor white. It’s gray. For two falls now, every magazine and catalog has been telegraphing gray as the strong color of the season. However, on last month’s Vogue cover, Claire Danes glittered in a blue sequined top, worn with a gray skirt. For its July cover, Harper’s Bazaar swathed Shalom Harlow in a baby blue ribbed cashmere turtleneck. What gives is: Blue goes with gray. It’s complementary, my dear Watson. So watch for blues in all hues, for day and for evening. Baby blues, ice blues, lavender blues, even blues with hints of — you guessed it — gray.
