I just had to agree with Greg Kot’s “A rare act of altruism in the rock world” article (July 26) about the Smashing Pumpkins.
When they first announced the charity show at the New World Music Theatre, I thought it was a brilliant upstaging of Mayor Daley for his shabby treatment of the band.
I’m a lot older than you and somewhat jaded by those years, but when the enormity of what the Smashing Pumpkins are doing became obvious I didn’t know how to react.
For some time they have had nothing to prove as musicians.
It appears that they have nothing to prove as human beings.
