Thanks to television programs such as PBS’ “Antiques Roadshow,” a heightened knowledge of antiques and collectibles has become a mainstream pursuit. Inspired by this burgeoning connoisseurship, several new shops dealing in the old, the unusual and the cuious have opened recently. Some specialize in a period or genre, others generalize. The shops we sampled offer what all antiques aficionados set their sights on-unique objects in good condition you don’t come across too often.
