Gertrude Piehl, 86, of Arlington Heights, a retired bookkeeper, died Friday in the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Arlington Heights. As a child, she left her native Russia for Turkey with her parents. The family then moved to Germany, where they lived for three years before coming to Chicago. She worked as a bookkeeper for Alpha Tool Co. in Franklin Park, a family-run business started by her husband, William. Mrs. Piehl enjoyed cooking and baking. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Palombit; a son, Harry; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Algonquin. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel.
