As an avid recycler and dedicated public transportation user, I was delighted when the Chicago Tribune sponsored the installation of the blue newspaper recycling boxes at elevated train stations. The only problem was that for a while they were just at downtown stations, and that’s not the only places where they are needed.
But in June collection boxes started showing up on the Blue Line, and in late July boxes appeared at South Side Red Line stops.
Not having to lug my newspapers home for recycling after I’m done with them makes keeping up with my reading, as well as recycling, easier. It may seem like a small thing, but convenience is important in making recycling work.
I also expect that the CTA is finding these well-designed boxes are helping cut down on their garbage problems as well. Great collaboration all around!
