Walter T. Marks, a former Chicago Fire Department captain, died Thursday on his 83rd birthday surrounded by family at his Southwest Side home. Mr. Marks was chief at a Southwest Side station and also served as acting chief of the firehouse at Midway Airport. He spent nearly 30 years with the department. Mr. Marks served in the Navy in World War II. Mr. Marks is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Lois Johnson and Alice Marin; and four grandchildren. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, 6435 S. Kilbourn Ave.
