I read very carefully the recent “Truth in Love” ad placed in the Tribune. I still am reeling from the underlying hatred for gays and lesbians that I sensed as I read the ad. I thank God for enlightened columnists like Clarence Page (“What gays and blacks have in common,” Commentary, July 22) for setting the record straight on this issue.
I find it offensive to believe that a group of so-called “Christians” would believe that gays and lesbians need to be cured because they are sinners who stalk and recruit our children. We seem to give our children so little credit these days.
Why doesn’t this group leave gays and lesbians alone to live happy, family-oriented, productive lives? They are citizens who share the same Constitution with these “Christians.” Does the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” ring any bells?
Until hatred and bigotry are overcome by love and acceptance, gays and lesbians will only have the power to claim their own truth and to fully love and accept themselves.
