David W. Appelquist, 92, of Palatine was a retired meat cutter in the retail food industry, and a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Mr. Appelquist, a native of Chicago, died Monday in Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights. “He was a very kind, compassionate, generous person,” said his daughter-in-law, Janis Appelquist. “He was a loving family man and up to the end he maintained his sense of humor,” she said. “He said that he was too young for World War I and too old for World War II so the way he contributed was through his favorite charity, Paralyzed Veterans of America.” Survivors include a son, William; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
