Eugene B. Meier Sr., 83, a 46-year resident of Inverness, was a bookkeeper for the former Bache & Co., now part of Prudential-Bache Securities, for more than 20 years. Mr. Meier, who was born in Janesville, Wis., died Sunday in his home. Mr. Meier, who began working for Bache in 1950, also did commodities-related work for Merrill Lynch & Co. for 18 years. He was an independent trader at the Chicago Board of Trade for two years. Mr. Meier was a warrant officer with the U.S. Maritime Service who served as a radio operator during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Palatine and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 314 in Palatine. “He was an honest, God-fearing man,” said his wife of 49 years, Madaline. “He was a good Christian man. He felt very responsible to God for everything.” Survivors include two sons, Eugene B. Jr. and Walter R.; a daughter, Madaline E.M. Carpenter; a sister, Edith Meier Williams; a brother, David W. Meier; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
