Plans to expand the Opera House got another nudge Tuesday night when Woodstock City Council accepted a design development proposal from the architectural firm of McBride & Kelly Ltd.

According to Opera House general manager John Sharres, McBride & Kelly’s involvement with the design of the annex goes back to 1996 when the idea was proposed. Its initial work focused on developing floor plans and facade designs.

The second phase, approved Tuesday by a 5-0 council vote, will be directed toward engineering the heating, cooling, electrical and structural components, Sharres said.

The new engineering phase will cost $22,500, mostly covered by a donation from the Still family.
