The Arlington Heights Village Board on Monday approved changes to the design of the Arlington Towne Square downtown project, stating that condominiums there will not have bay windows and will have half as many balconies as originally planned.

Also, marble will be added to the facade at the base of the five buildings at the project, which is under construction.

Typically, the village Design Commission’s decision would suffice for exterior architectural matters on already-approved projects. But the advisory group sought final review from the Village Board.

The board voted 4-2, with Trustees Lee Hettinger and Thomas Hayes opposing the changes.

“The ink is hardly dry on what was already approved, and now changes come in. What does this say to other developers?” Hettinger said.
