Robert A. Armstrong Sr., 80, of St. Charles died Monday in his home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Armstrong was a decorated World War II veteran, having received the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star for bravery, a combat infantryman’s badge and several campaign ribbons for battles including the Anzio Invasion. After the war, he received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Pratt University in New York. Mr. Armstrong held numerous positions of leadership in the cosmetics industry. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Robert Jr., a daughter, Maureen Anne; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles, with a liturgical wake service at 7:30 p.m.
