A task force comprising 93 parents and community leaders was charged Thursday night with looking into the future needs of McHenry School District 15’s seven elementary schools and the possible conversion of the McHenry High School East campus to a middle school.
Thursday’s meeting in the Parkland School was an orientation session, according to District 15 Supt. Bill Dodds. Participants then split into separate groups to evaluate their respective schools.
“We’re asking them to verify what our architects have suggested and to establish priorities” on a school-by-school basis, Dodds said.
Many of the improvements suggested by the architects, such as those that would increase fire safety, must be completed, but other projects could be assigned priorities based on findings of the task force and its groups.
“We can break projects down into three basic categories,” Dodds said. “There’s the `must do’ and the `should do’ and `it would be nice to do.’
“We’re asking them to concentrate on categories 2 and 3.”
Dodds said the task force should complete its work in time to report to the school board at the end of September.
