– Will “The Practice” be continuing this fall?

Currently a first-time Emmy nominee for Best Drama Series, producer David E. Kelley’s ABC show will start its third year next month, and on a different night. The law series moves from Mondays to Sundays this week, with a two-hour repeat that pits former lovers Bobby (Dylan McDermott) and Helen (Lara Flynn Boyle) against each other in a murder trial involving a doctor.

– I’ve heard that there’s going to be a spinoff of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” What will it be about, and when will it start?

The WB Network has ordered “Angel” for the fall of 1999. “Buffy” devotees are sure to know that name, and David Boreanaz will reprise the role of the female slayer’s true love, who broke her heart when he shifted to the dark side. In the meantime, Angel is more than likely to resurface in some form on “Buffy” during the coming season.

– What was the name of the summer series that Lisa Hartman Black starred in a few years ago?

It was “2000 Malibu Road,” a CBS show about troubled female housemates that was produced by Aaron Spelling and film director Joel Schumacher (“Batman & Robin,” “A Time to Kill”). The cast also included Drew Barrymore and “Flashdance” icon Jennifer Beals, and the short-run serial ended with several cliffhangers that were never resolved.

– Who will replace Carey Lowell on “Law & Order”?

Executive producer Dick Wolf has selected Angie Harmon, who will be recognized by viewers who watched “Baywatch Nights” or last season’s ABC show “C-16.” Her new character, Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael, will be introduced in the “Law & Order” season premiere Sept. 23 on NBC. Harmon’s former “Baywatch Nights” co-star, David Hasselhoff, had yellow roses delivered to her on the first day of her new job.

– I’ve noted that “Timecop” is back on ABC. Does that mean it has been renewed?

No. The network canceled the show fairly early last fall, and it’s simply playing off the previously unaired episodes and some repeats to minimize its loss on the series. Its star, T.W. King, will resurface in October opposite Shannen Doherty — who plays one of three young witches — in the new WB Network program “Charmed.”

– Now that the wedding of Kate and Oswald is off on “The Drew Carey Show,” will Kate and Drew have a romance?

Not immediately, at least. Carey recently told us that Kate (played by Christa Miller) will have other concerns when the ABC comedy starts up again. She won’t be Drew’s co-worker anymore, since she’ll quit her job and try a variety of other occupations, only to find those don’t suit her very well.
