Downers Grove is establishing a volunteer panel to help guide development in the soon-to-be-renovated downtown business district, even though the panel’s future is in legal limbo.
The Village Council voted this week to authorize establishment of the 11-member Downers Grove Downtown Management Committee that will be charged with implementing and overseeing the master plan for redeveloping the downtown area by 2001. The committee will also work on recruiting businesses and hiring a coordinator.
Funding for the panel remains undecided, pending the outcome of a lawsuit challenging the establishment of a special service area designed to help fund the panel and the downtown redevelopment.
