The old cliche of a bunch of kids banding together with the notion “Let’s put on a show!” gets a ’90s twist in The Goodman Theatre/CHA’s Youth Drama and Youth Drama, Too! Workshops. The program’s 56 students met for five weeks to learn all aspects of theater production, including writing, acting and set and costume design, to create original adaptations of biblical stories called “Powerful Parables.” Meanwhile, the 30 apprentice artists in the Goodman/Yollocalli Youth Drama Workshop (Yollocalli is an Aztec term meaning “the house of creativity that stems from the heart of youth”) explored the roots of Latin culture through development of a 45-minute play adapted from author Eduardo Galeano’s folk tales. “Powerful Parables” shows at 6:30 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic School, 2920 S. Wabash Ave.; Yollocalli’s program plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mexican Fine Arts Center, 1852 W. 19th St. 312-435-2782.
