Gregg’s Landing, the new golf course community in north suburban Vernon Hills, likely will be the site of the 1999 Parade of Homes, according to Robert Johnston, executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, sponsor of the event.
The 1,100-acre development previously hosted the 1997 Parade, which attracted some 18,000 visitors.
“The board has approved Gregg’s Landing conditionally. Though no agreement has been signed yet, there is a good possibility it will go forward,” said Johnston.
The 1998 Parade, featuring eight homes, will be held Sept. 12 to Oct. 4 at Turnberry of Lakewood in McHenry County.
Pending final approval, next year’s custom home show will be held Sept. 11 to Oct. 3 at Gregg Landing’s Royal Birkdale neighborhood, an enclave of 34 lots that was named for the golf course where the 1998 British Open was played.
The custom homesites range from a half to a third of an acre and are priced from $169,900 to $285,000.
Many of the lots are suitable for walkout or English basements, and all have views of the White Deer Run Golf Course or 50-acre Lake Charles.
Royal Birkdale is one of the most picturesque locations at Gregg’s Landing, according to Ed Zale, president of Zale Homes.
Zale is the developer and master planner of the project that will have 2,100 residences when completed. It is being built on the former Cuneo estate.
Five builders already have signed up for the 1999 Parade, which likely will showcase about a dozen custom residences.
Many of the homes at Gregg’s Landing will border the 18-hole, 240-acre golf course. Designed by noted golf course architect Dick Nugent, it opened earlier this month. Each hole of the public course has five tee positions.
A new phase of multifamily dwellings has opened on the east side of the property near the 65-acre Cuneo Museum and Gardens and 15-acre Lake Harvey.
The Pinehurst townhouses will be two-story or bi-level units with three bedrooms and up to 2,100 square feet of living area. Priced from $206,900, they will have a deck or patio and two-car garage.
The Saddlebrook ranch-style townhouses will have two or three bedrooms, range up to 2,470 square feet and include two-car garages. Prices start at $209,500.
Scheduled for completion late next spring is a $1 million golf course clubhouse. Also set to open about the same time is a new entrance on Milwaukee Avenue.
Currently, the entry to Gregg’s Landing is on Butterfield Road. Take Town Line Road (Illinois Highway 60), then north on Butterfield and east into the community.
