Daniel R. Bennett, 64, an insurance broker, former 40th Ward Republican committeeman and a one-time candidate for the Cook County Board, died Saturday of heart failure in Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The lifelong Chicago resident attended Loyola Academy. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from Loyola University. Following service in the Army, he married Christina Scalabroni. He served as committeeman from 1988 to 1997, and in 1988 he was a presidential elector. In 1990, he made his unsuccessful bid to be a Cook County commissioner. He owned D.R. Bennett & Co. insurance brokerage. In addition to his wife, survivors include six sons, Daniel, David P., Lawrence, Stephen, Andrew and Paul; and 12 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago, and proceed to St. Hilary Church, 5614 N. Fairfield Ave., Chicago, for a 10 a.m. mass.
