Herman Dreyer, 94, of Rosemont, that village’s first public works employee, died Monday in Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines. Born in Des Plaines, Mr. Dreyer operated his garbage business, Dreyer Scavengers, in Rosemont before he sold it in 1957 and took a job with Rosemont’s Public Works Department. “He did everything,” said son-in-law Ron Schultz. “He fixed the streets, the fences and looked after the water.” He retired in 1972 after 15 years of service. Survivors include three daughters, Janet Morrison, Mary Knauss and Nancy Schultz; a sister, Ann Snyder; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
