Cisco acquisition: Computer-networking gearmaker Cisco Systems Inc. said it agreed to acquire American Internet Corp., a closely held Internet software concern, for $56 million in stock. Cisco is competing in the market to provide equipment to telephone companies, Internet-service providers and others building networks to combine data, voice and television signals.
