With an eye toward establishing a network of bicycle paths and hiking trails throughout the village, Huntley Park Commissioner William Awe appealed to the Village Board Thursday night for its support and assistance in developing a plan.

Meeting as a committee of the whole, the board heard Awe’s warnings that without a master trail plan in place, the village could lose open space and a “user-friendly environment for residents and shoppers in the area.”

Awe said his ad hoc committee was studying possible routes for the paths with hopes of linking the Huntley network with other paths being established throughout the county.

Trustee Dennis Beeskow said he hoped to see developers working within the village contribute funds to the program in addition to any assistance the village might provide.

Mayor Jim Dhamer told Awe, “We’re going to work together with you,” in future discussions with developers and neighboring municipalities.
