Speaking as a high school social studies teacher (Downers Grove North), I see a very serious problem with the Clinton situation. Every day in my classroom I see the results of what Richard Nixon started in 1974. As role-model-in-chief of the nation, he made cynics of an entire generation of young voters. I now teach their children.

And now they have their very own lying president. I will thankfully be retired when their children hit high school.

President Clinton should see this and understand the impact of his actions on the future. The presidency is not about him, it’s about us. And the “us” of the future are the kids who are watching his every move today (and don’t think they aren’t).

He should resign his office. It really is the only way to restore dignity to it. I’m sorry if he feels we are prying into his personal life, but we are talking about the future of the nation here, something he should be thinking about every waking moment.

When parents lie, kids are hurt. When teachers lie, kids are hurt. When the president lies (and lies), we are all hurt.
