About 5,000 employees of India’s film industry took to the streets of Bombay last week to protest what they called the government’s failure to curb piracy of movies and music. The protest, which included several prominent Indian actors, was led by the Film Makers Combine, which represents technical and artistic filmworkers. An official for the group said the industry was suffering severe losses because of rampant video piracy. “We are fighting for our livelihood,” Umesh Yadav, a sound technician, told Reuters news service. The Indian film industry is the largest in the world in terms of the number of movies it produces.
