John F. O’Connor, 66, supervisor of the city of Chicago’s corps of painters, died Friday of cancer in his Chicago home. Mr. O’Connor started as an apprentice painter and decorator with his grandfather. He later opened his own decorating business before joining the city’s Department of Public Works in 1960. He had about 50 people working under him when he became the general foreman . He was a life member of Painters’ Union Local No. 147. Mr. O’Connor is survived by his wife, Josephine; a son, Michael; three sisters, Catherine, Mary Ellen Lewandowski and Patricia Moore; and a brother, Timothy. Mass will be said at 9:15 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 1530 Jackson Ave., in River Forest.
