Wilbur C. Latimer, 82, of Elgin, whose career as a machinist included the manufacturing of airplane-landing gear during World War II, died Friday at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Mr. Latimer had been making the aircraft equipment for five years when he was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly before the end of World War II. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C., but later returned to the Chicago area and worked at Rockwell International. Mr. Latimer was former treasurer of Advent Lutheran Church of Chicago, where he and his wife, Elmira, wed in 1937. He joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin after they retired in the late 1970s. Mr. Latimer enjoyed gardening and music. In addition to his wife, Mr. Latimer is survived by a son, Thomas; a daughter, Linda Young; a brother, Clifford; a sister, Dorothy Trelatsky; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin, where funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m.
