Charles W. Wallace, 77, of Marengo died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital in Belvidere. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces as a meteorologist in the Pacific. After the war, he was a fire insurance inspector. In 1946, he joined his father in the A.M. Wallace Insurance Agency in Marengo, which he eventually owned and operated for 30 years until he retired in 1980. Mr. Wallace belonged to the Marengo American Legion Post 192 and the Marengo VFW Post. He is survived by his wife, Lucy; a daughter, Patricia Wallace; and a sister, Margaret Carmichael. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church, 505 E. Grant Highway, Marengo. The funeral will follow at the church at 7:15 p.m. A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Marengo City Cemetery, Van Buren and East Streets, Marengo.
