Instead of police metering noise levels from some of those so-called cigarette boats (“Let’s hear it for quiet boating,” Editorial, Aug. 10), why not make a speed limit law and give the police radar guns? A speed limit of 45 or 50 m.p.h. would quiet those boats and encourage them to move to the open waters of Lake Michigan.

It is impossible to just cruise the Chain o’ Lakes without having those cigarette boats racing around, causing noise and dangerous wakes as a result of their speed.
