Herman Srulovitz, 85, a former Highland Park resident who owned nurseries in Wheeling and Lyons for more than 30 years, died Aug. 3 in Miami of liver cancer. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Srulovitz was a teenager when he came to the Chicago area. He had an 11th grade education, but did not lack for business acumen. In 1948, he started an open-air produce market in Lyons, later adding an outdoor nursery. In 1961, he moved the nursery operations, Sky View Wholesale Nursery Inc., and Wheeling Nursery Inc., to Wheeling and closed the produce market. Mr. Srulovitz and his wife, Elaine, whom he married in 1933, retired and moved to Miami about 11 years ago. In retirement, Mr. Srulovitz served on the board of directors of Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center Beth Jacob. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; a son, Michael; a daughter, Arlene; a brother and a sister.
