David B. Groves, 71, a 30-year resident of Elgin, was a retired chemicals salesman. Mr. Groves, who was born in Nantucket, Mass., died Tuesday in Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Groves was a former member of the Rutland-Dundee Fire Department and a past president of the Elgin Shrine Club. Mr. Groves was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years. “He was a good person, a good family man,” said Wayne Henke, adjutant of American Legion Post 57, Elgin, of which Mr. Groves was a member. Survivors include his wife, Joan; three daughters, Sarah O’Hara, Victoria Wollack and Frances; a sister, Frances Hudzietz; and six grandchildren. Services were held Friday.
