Raymond S. Poterek, 80, of Morton Grove, died Thursday in St. Joseph Health Centers & Hospital in Chicago. Mr. Poterek was the CEO of Val W. Poterek Inc., a wholesale distributor of tobacco and candy products. He started making cigars by hand before the business expanded to a wholesale operation. He was a captain in the Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janet; two sons, John and Thomas; and a granddaughter. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Poterek Funeral Home, 5253 W. Fullerton Ave., Chicago. Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Martha Catholic Church, 8523 Georgiana Ave., Morton Grove.
