In the rush to pin blame in the Ryan Harris murder case the good citizens of Chicago have been all too eager to accept the charging of 7- and 8-year-olds. Can we really believe children can waive Miranda rights and understand the nature of crimes? But for a fortuitous bit of lab work, we were willing to put away these kids for life.
Let us take a moment to look at ourselves and take stock as to whether we also share in the blame for how this investigation has been carried out.
