Joan McDevitt, 71, of Palatine died Aug. 31 in Northwest Continuing Care Center in Arlington Heights. She was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Mrs. McDevitt was a retired office worker from Toronto, where she met her future husband, James McDevitt. She moved to Palatine in 1976 and was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bridge. “She was a marvelous mother,” said her husband, who added that the day of the memorial service will commemorate their 49th wedding anniversary. Other survivors include three sons, Michael, John and Peter; two daughters, Kathleen Head and Eileen Deremiah; two brothers, Walter and John Leesing; and 10 grandchildren. A mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Theresa Catholic Church, 467 N. Benton St., Palatine.
