The Des Plaines Valley Library District is seeking higher developer fees to keep up with new growth.

The district last week asked the Lockport City Council to increase the fee to $175 per home from $50 per home.

The district, which also serves Crest Hill and part of Romeoville, is seeking an increase only in Lockport, said library Trustee John Kinder.

Developers pay more in other Will County communities, from $150 in Mokena to $410 in New Lenox, said library board President Karen S. McCanna in a letter to Mayor Frank Mitchell.

The City Council referred the request to its Law and Ordinance Committee.

Mitchell said he thinks that the council will increase the fee but is unsure whether the amount will be as much as requested.
