A former Glencoe man pleaded guilty Monday in a plot to kill a former business partner to collect $3.4 million in insurance.
Bruce Sears, 56, who has been in custody since his arrest in April, faces up to 9 years in prison when he is sentenced on Feb. 25, said Assistant U.S. Atty. John Burley.
Sears was arrested after meeting with an undercover agent posing as a hit man. Sears allegedly was meeting the agent to pay him $2,000 as part of a fee to kill Sears’ former business partner, Lawrence Siegal of Vernon Hills.
Sears had promised to pay a total of $50,000, authorities said.
