The Los Angeles Dodgers have fired manager Glenn Hoffman, according to the Wednesday edition of the Orange Country Register.

Hoffman, who will apparently be reassigned to another position in the organization, was the manager for the Dodgers’ Class AAA team at Albuquerque when he succeeded the fired Bill Russell on June 22. Under Hoffman, the Dodgers went 47-41 on the way to an 83-79 season, 15 games behind San Diego in the NL West.

– The Mariners have exercised their 1999 option, reportedly worth $3.5 million, on Edgar Martinez’s contract. The designated hitter, who hit .322 with 29 home runs and 102 RBIs this season, will return for his 13th year in Seattle.
